OUR PROGRAM AREAS

Climate-Smart Agriculture & Rural Livelihoods

The organization undertakes scientific research to develop, pilot and scale out climate-smart agriculture technologies to rural smallholder farmers. The technology development, testing and scaling focuses on circular/regenerative agriculture, conservation agriculture and other sustainable agriculture practices that are ecologically friendly, productive, efficient, and allows rural smallholder farmers to adapt to or be more resilient to the continuous changing climate. Other projects focus on agripreneurship initiatives for economic empowerment of women and youth. These are geared towards enhancing food, nutrition, and economic security for rural farm families.

Environmental and Natural Resources Conservation

Under this program area, CSRAD implements projects focusing on environmental quality management, ecosystem functioning and nature conservation activities such as protection of threatened and endangered biodiversity/wildlife and their habitats – wetlands, forests, sacred groves, etc. The target is to enhance generational quality of human and planetary health and ecosystem benefits at local, national, and global scales.

Climate Action and Adaptation

Projects under this program area aim to improve the climate change adaptation capacities of rural smallholder farm families by enhancing the resilience of their farming systems. Within the context of climate change, projects target digital agriculture facilitation by leveraging on prevailing digital tools and technologies to improve precision, productivity, and efficiency of agri-food production systems. Climate insurance and related schemes to safeguard rural food systems against climate risks are targeted. Other projects focus on tree planting and forest creation activities for short-, medium- and long-term socio-ecological and socio-economic benefits for forest fringe communities and to improve the capacity of forests as carbon sinks for CO2 sequestration towards climate change mitigation.

Basic Education and Youth Development

Projects target improvement of access of rural children to quality basic education, and facilitate teaching, learning and cognitive development.

Water and Sanitation Management

The organization promotes water resources management and undertake awareness creation on proper and/or innovative waste management practices in rural communities.
